Instant response from the last blog post on how to create a personal rapport – even when you are clueless about who is on the call.
Now, I bet your situation may not be so rough. You are one of those super prepared virtual presenters who has done advance work: informational interviews, surveys and pre-calls. You know exactly who is on the call and what their hot buttons are.
NOT.
Well, even if you normally are this type of prepared virtual presenter, things happen. You get called in at the last minute. You’re invited to provide expert knowledge but don’t know the players. You’re part of a team but your co-presenter is sick. The list goes on and on.
Even if you don’t normally encounter the problem of how to make an impersonal setting more personal, it is likely to happen now or in the future.
So, I have to share three more tips to jumpstart your efforts in making every virtual meeting or virtual sales presentation even more personal.
Personalize by industry:
Share case studies from the industry to which you are presenting. Mention news and legislation affecting this industry. Refer to the specific organization by name. Mention competitors and industry associations by name. Each of these help personalize your content for your audience.
Personalize by first name:
Give examples and refer to people in the examples by first name. This is up to your discretion to determine if you will use actual names or fictitious names. In many cases, it’s preferable to use a fictitious name to protect the identity of your source.
Personlize by citing recent news:
Mention today’s news. If you know where your participants are located, check the news in their area. Focus on keeping your comments relevant for your participants.
Use any or all of these personalization techniques in your next meeting. You’ll be rewarded immediately. Participants will naturally pay closer attention, stay on the same page and give their full attention to your presentation.
Let me know how these work for you. And, feel free to share how you create instant rapport in your virtual presentations.
